At Roca Viva Wines, our philosophy revolves around the creation of honest, pure and natural wines that reflect the authentic character of the grape, the terroir and the Andalusian region. We consider wine as a limitless art form, where we explore diverse winemaking techniques, relying on natural and artisanal processes.
We believe in creating wines with character, experimenting with new and different winemaking techniques, without resorting to aggressive processes. With a meticulous and artisanal approach, we return to the ancestral roots of winemaking, combining tradition with modern knowledge. We prioritise clean, authentic wines that express the true essence of the region. At Roca Viva Wines, each bottle tells a unique story, where tradition meets innovation in every sip.
Roca Viva Wines was born as a dream cherished by David Raya Moreno, a Sommelier with extensive experience in various establishments, moved by the illusion of recovering and regenerating exceptional vineyards in the beautiful land of Andalusia.
His devotion to honest, pure and authentic wines became the driving force behind this project that seeks not only to produce exceptional wines but also to preserve the very essence of the region. In 2021, on this winemaking journey, David found company in Peter Freislederer, a collaborator who shares the vision and joins the project to bring the winery to life.
In 2022, Roca Viva Wines became a joint venture with Finca La Donaira and is now located at the vicinity of this eco retreat in Montecorto, Malaga.
Together, at Roca Viva Wines, we fuse our knowledge, experience and passions to produce wines that tell the unique stories of each terroir in Andalucía. We explore the different terroirs of this rich and diverse region, carefully selecting indigenous grapes that reflect the authenticity and unique character of each plot.
Each wine we produce is the result of a deep commitment to environmental and social responsibility. We care for the vineyards, we care for the soils and we value the people who make our work possible. At Roca Viva Wines, we don’t just make wines, we create experiences that encapsulate the very essence of Andalusia in every bottle.
We chose the name Roca Viva Wines because in Andalusia, the mountains are like big rocks that, unfortunately, have suffered the impact of human overuse, leaving behind inert soils.
Our mission is focused on regenerative agriculture, seeking to bring these forgotten rocks back to life. This name not only reflects our commitment to the land, but is also echoed in the essence of our wines: chemical-free, living wines that capture the vitality and authenticity of the region. At Roca Viva Wines, we seek not only to produce exceptional wines, but also to revitalise the land that gives them life.
His journey in winemaking has its roots in cosmopolitan Barcelona, followed by various experiences in Poland and Berlin. However, his return to Barcelona was not destined, as his dream, like an unwritten chapter of his destiny, was to imbibe the essence of wine. Catalonia, rich in wineries, was not his final destination. His heart and his roots called him to a place where the winemaking tradition resonated more deeply. And so, with the warm breeze of Andalusia caressing him, he found the perfect setting for his longed-for dream. His parents came from these Andalusian lands. Making wine here was more than a project; it was a deep connection with his ancestors, a way to honour the land that flows in his veins. Thus, he decided to land in Andalusia.
Exploring this landscape steeped in history and wine culture, he met people with vineyards, guardians of a heritage that was in danger. They offered him a unique opportunity: to make wines that would otherwise be uprooted from some of their vineyards. In this apparent problem, he found his opportunity, an open door for the creation of wines that tell stories rooted in the land of his ancestors.
He is a German-born graduate sommelier whose passion for wine has taken him on a captivating journey around the world. With a Masters Degree in Wine Marketing form INSEEC, Bordeaux as well as a Wines & Beverage Certificate from the renowned Culinary Institute of America, Peter has delved into the intricacies of the wine world, soaking up the rich tapestry of cultures and flavours.
Having lived and worked in Switzerland, India, USA, France and his native Germany, Peter’s adventures in the world of wine have been extraordinary. It was in Spain that he found his true passion for natural wines, thanks to the inspiration of his business partner, David.
For the past decade, Peter has been deeply involved in the wine industry, culminating his focus on the distribution of natural wines from Spanish wineries. He currently resides in the province of Malaga, Spain, and has fulfilled his dream with Roca Viva Wines, where he plays a key role in promoting theirs exquisite creations.
But Peter’s interests go beyond the vineyard. As a music enthusiast, he finds solace and rhythm as a bassist, guitarist and occasional pianist. With every note and every sip, Peter’s life is a symphony of flavours and melodies that he hopes to share with other enthusiasts. Cheers to Peter’s journey of discovery and his passion for the finer things in life.
